The Junior Firefighter Program is intended:


* To establish a uniformed youth organization associated with, and aspiring to inherent qualities of the Central Alexander Fire Department.


* To assist youths to develop themselves mentally, physically, and socially. To promote self-discipline, social consciousness, and awareness of their responsibilities to others.


* To develop a spirit of adventure and qualities of leadership.


* To encourage team working and self-confidence in their own abilities.


* To enhance their practical abilities and knowledge, to enable them to play a full and constructive role in society.


* To encourage attitudes and actions to assist those most in need of help within society.


* To improve knowledge and practice in relation of safety and their personal well-being.


* To participate in charitable fundraising activities for the benefits of others.


* To provide opportunity for junior firefighters to obtain certifications and insight to such activities as firefighting, first aid, etc. that can benefit them as senior firefighters.

Requirements & Qualifications for becoming a Junior Firefighter:


1) The minimum age for all junior firefighters will be 12 years old and the maximum age of 17 years old, however youth of 12 and 13 years of age must have parent or guardian that is a senior member of the department.


2) Must have written parental consent to join.


3) The applicant must reside within the Central Alexander Fire District or be the child of a Central Alexander Senior Firefighter. Unless the Chief has given permission for out of district juniors.


4) The Head Advisor and / or the Chief must have met with the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to answer any questions and to ensure all parties involved have a clear understanding of the expectations.


5) Enrollment in an accredited middle school or equivalent, high school or equivalent, or approved home school program, maintaining a minimum grade average of a “C” or having graduated from high school or having received a G.E.D.


6) Must physically be capable of performing any assigned fire tasks in order to save lives and promote fire safety.


7) Must be free of disease or physical limitations that would prevent the junior firefighter from adequately performing his / her assigned tasks or that could pose a health or safety threat to themselves or others.


If you or your child would be interested in becoming a member of the Junior Firefighter Program then please feel free to come by on a Junior Meeting night and visit with us. The junior program meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at the fire department. Please note that we are limited to only 15 junior members. If we have a full roster, then we will be glad to accept you or your child's application and place them on a waiting list until a position becomes available.
